Samsung to Finally Pay Apple $548 Million in Patent Dispute
Samsung fought until the bitter end to avoid paying Apple, but the company now says it will finally hand over the more than $548 million (roughly Rs. 3,653 crores) it owes for infringing the patents and designs of its biggest smartphone rival.
In papers filed in federal court in San Jose, California on Thursday, Samsung Electronics Co Ltd said it will make the payment by December 14 if Apple Inc sends an invoice on Friday.
Asked if it had done so, Apple declined to comment on Friday.
The payment comes after a US appeals court last May reduced a $930 million judgment against Samsung by $382 million (roughly Rs. 2,546 crores), stemming from a 2012 verdict for infringing Apple patents and copying the look of the iPhone.
Another trial over remaining damages relating to some of Samsung's infringing products in the case is set to go ahead next spring.
Even though the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C. had authorized damages to Apple in May, Samsung again appealed the final figure to the same court, and was rebuffed twice more.
Now agreeing to pay, Samsung told the San Jose court that it expects to be reimbursed if it eventually succeeds in a forthcoming appeal to the US Supreme Court over its liability for copying the patented designs of the surface, bezel and user interface of the iPhone, which accounted for $399 million (roughly Rs. 2,660 crores) of the total award.
South Korea-based Samsung also said it reserved the right to be reimbursed in the future if a decision by the US Patent and Trademark Office invalidating one of the Apple patents in the case, related to touchscreen gestures, is upheld.
Apple intends to appeal that ruling and said in court documents it "disputes Samsung's asserted rights to reimbursement."
"We are disappointed that the court has agreed to proceed with Apple's grossly exaggerated damages claims regardless of whether the patents are valid," a Samsung spokeswoman said in a statement.

How to See Most Recent Facebook Posts on its iOS, Android Apps
Now, opening the Facebook apps will show you the most popular posts, which is based on an algorithm. Although Facebook hasn't removed that "most recent" posts option, it definitely has made it a lot harder to find.
The release notes of Facebook's most recent updates to its iOS and Android apps mention these features: review your posts before sharing (iOS only), create posts offline, and News Feed improvements to make it load faster.
What those notes do not mention is Facebook's decision to remove the "News Feed" button from the main screen of the apps. Tapping this button allowed users to access the "Most Recent" button, which shows posts in chronological order.

Here's how you can return to viewing posts in chronological order.
Open the Facebook app on iOS (version 10) or Android (version 9.0.0.26.28).
iOS users should tap the "More" button at the bottom right, next to Notifications. Android users can find this button next at the top right.
Scroll down to the Feeds sub-head (below Apps) and hit the "Most Recent" button. That's it. Now Facebook will order feeds based on the time of posting, rather than popularity.
Unfortunately, this isn't a permanent fix. We found that we had to select this option whenever we re-opened the Facebook app.

HTC One mini 2 With 4.5-inch HD Display, Snapdragon 400 SoC Launched
The HTC One mini 2 will be available in the same three colour options as HTC One (M8) - Amber Gold, Glacial Silver, and Gunmetal Gray.

Notably, the One mini 2 exudes the same premium feel as the One (M8) in terms of design and looks; although the former is smaller in size. The One mini 2 features a 4.5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) display, which offers a pixel density of 326ppi. Much like the One (M8), the One mini 2 also runs Android 4.4 KitKat with Sense 6.0 UI on top.

The One mini 2 also drops the flagship's highlight feature: the duo rear camera setup, and instead sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with BSI sensor and an f/2.2 lens. It also packs a 5-megapixel front-facing camera capable of capturing 1080p videos.

It is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz coupled with Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB of RAM. In terms of the processor, the One mini 2 has received a major downgrade when compared to its full-size sibling, the One (M8), which comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC.

Other specifications include a 2100mAh battery, and 16GB inbuilt storage with expandable storage support via microSD card (up to 128GB). Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GLONASS, GPS, NFC, Micro-USB and 3G. It measures 137.43x65.04x10.6mm and weighs 137 grams.

LG G3 Spotted in Purported Press Renders Ahead of May 27 Launch
The tech blog Phonarena on Wednesday has posted five alleged press renders of the LG G3, showcasing the brush metal finish and three colours - Black, White, and Gold. The images are pretty clear and sharp, and we can clearly see the purported design of the smartphone in its full glory.
Earlier, LG had teased the G3 with a video, confirming the brush metal finish on the device, although it's yet to be seen whether LG has actually put in metal or is using well-finished polycarbonate. The teaser video featured the tagline 'Simple is the New Smart,' and showed the G3 smartphone partially without revealing the overall design.
The LG G3 has a 5.5-inch QHD AH-IPS LCD display with minimal bezels as earlier confirmed by LG. The back has a rear button interface, with has similar but circular power button instead, which could also be the rumoured fingerprint sensor. Other than that, the rear button interface includes two volume keys, and the camera is accompanied by a dual-LED flash on top.
The camera is rumoured to be a 13-megapixel Sony IMX 214 Exmor RS sensor, with added optical image stabilization OIS +.
Other rumoured specifications of the LG G3 are Snapdragon 805 SoC, with 16GB of inbuilt storage and 2GB of RAM, and the second with 32GB inbuilt storage and 3GB of RAM. Both variants will reportedly support storage expandability with microSD card support.
The event is scheduled by LG on May 27 - London, New York, and San Francisco; followed by a May 28 launch event in Singapore, Istanbul, and Seoul.
